The business was badly affected by the the great depression of te 1930's but, like many manufacturing businesses was called into supporting the war to make boots for the British army. By and by the end of the 40’s Grenson was manufacturing more shoes than ever before and employing over 400 workers. Grenson shoes managed and owned by the Green family, with AK Charles following his father William Green, CW Sidney Green and lastly JW Heyden Green. William's great grandson was still managing the business until the 1980's when he sold it on.
