Grenson Shoes

Grenson Shoes was launched by the late William Green single handedly in 1875.  The Grenson offering was an immediate success and twenty years later Grenson re-located to a larger premises to keep up with growing demand throughout the nineteenth century. The current factory is the same factory on Queen Street and is the heart of this thriving shoe Northampton shoe industry.

The business was badly affected by the the great depression of te 1930's but, like many manufacturing businesses was called into supporting the war to make boots for the British army. By and by the end of the 40’s Grenson was manufacturing more shoes than ever before and employing over 400 workers. Grenson shoes managed and owned by the Green family, with AK Charles following his father William Green, CW Sidney Green and lastly JW Heyden Green.  William's great grandson was still managing the business until the 1980's when he sold it on.
