Edwin

Established in Japan 1947, Edwin jeans was the brainchild of Mr Tsunemi. His passion for denim inspired him to import them directly from the United States with no denim manufacturing in Japan. In 1951 when Japanese made denim was first sold domestically, the denim was inferior quality and expensive. Mr Tsumeni was impelled to develop his own denims, with greater quality and sophistication in washes and fits. Following this moment in Edwin's history, craftsmanship, integrity and innovation have been paramount to the ethos of the brand.

Utilising the letters D, E, N, I & M (reversing the M creating a W) the brand Edwin denim was introduced and the first pair crafted in 1961. By '63 Edwin jeans had developed the world’s heaviest (16oz) ringspun denim, featuring the eminent Edwin rainbow selvedge, that is still in production today. By the 70’s Edwin became the first company to introduce ‘old wash’, developed to replicate denim worn from its unwashed, rigid state traditionally manufcatured for workwear.

Edwin jeans invented ‘stone washing’, a pivotal moment in the development of denim manufacturing, revolutionising the whole denim industry in the 80's. During the 1990’s Edwin created the ‘new vintage’ concept, replicating the subtle beauty of hand vintage washes from archive peices pre-dating '47. The Edwin ED-55 Relaxed, ED-39 Rengular, and Edwin ED-71 Slim today are the brands key fits and run through the range every season. In the clothing line the Edwin Wyatt Sweatshirt in fire red is now a Edwin staple and the EC sweatshirt and pocket t-shirts and classic Edwin clothing pieces.
