Marketing the beret as a must-have post-war fashion item, Jacques becomes increasingly involved in the distribution and production of berets over the following 20 years. By 1938, Jacques launched the KANGOL name to distinguish his the Kangol beret from the competition. The most widely accepted theory is that the name combines the K from knitting, the ANG from angora fur, and the OL from fabric wool. Whatever the labels true origin, the brand name was an inspired idea.

Officially born in Cleator, Cumbria UK, Kangol originally gained notoriety as a hat label for supplying berets to the British army in WWII.  Now synonymous with the identifiable Kangol Kangaroo logo thanks to a famous young rapper named James Todd Smith, better know as LL Cool J, who wore a Kangol Bermuda Casual on the cover of his sophomore album. He stayed rocking Kangol Hats in his videos and public appearances throughout his exremely successful music career, making it a central part of Hip-Hop history. In the years to follow Kangol would cover the heads of such hip hop greats as Erik B, Rakim, Grand Master Flash, Slick Rick and more recently Samuel L Jackson's Hat of choice is the Kangol 504 Flat Cap.
