The Ackerman family were born hat millners, Arnold Ackerman the founder of New York Hat Co grew up working at his grandfathers’ cap factory.  By 1982 the time was right to go out on his own, using the knowledge and experience he gained he aimed aim to feed the new MTV generation with vintage styles and retro repros which were in huge demand.  With a second story loft and showroom on W. 27th Street, and tremendous support from his wife Barbara, The New York Hat Co. was formed

It’s been 25 years since those early days of the The New York Hat Co at 27th Street, but the The New York Hat Co to combine fashionable headwear with classic and functional styles has remained true. Throughout the years numerous The New York Hat Co hats have been featured in various films, videos, fashion shows and dozens of magazines.
